Fitting the Gompertz function to dose-response data of larval tick populations.

چکیده
Samples of 6, 1st generation larval populations of Boophilus decoloratus, originating from field collected females, were subjected to increasing doses of the organophosphate acaricide, Dioxathion. The dose-response relationship for 3 populations showed random heterogeneity, while systematic deviations from the linear probit lines were observed for the other 3 populations. Logistic and Gompertz regressions were also fitted for all 6 populations. Probit regressions fitted best for 2 populations exhibiting heterogeneous responses. The logistic regression fitted best for 1 population with heterogeneous responses and 1 population with systematic deviating responses. The Gompertz regression fitted best for the 2 remaining populations exhibiting systematic deviating responses. The Gompertz function may be useful in describing the dose-response relationship obtained for certain acaricidal toxicity tests.

Proximate Contributions to Adult Body Size in Two Species of Dusky Salamanders (plethodontidae: Desmognathus)
I used skeletochronological data to evaluate the contributions of propagule size, larval/juvenile growth, and age at first reproduction to differences in adult body size in two species of plethodontid salamanders of the genus Desmognathus. The traits in question were evaluated in populations of the larger D. quadramaculatus and smaller D. monticola in the southern Blue Ridge Mountains of North ...
متن کاملSimplified Azbel Model for Fitting Mortality Tables
Since the 1825 there is Gompertz mortality function for estimation of mortality data. All the attemts of finding apropriate mortality function lead to functions that are not easy to fit with the actual mortality data. The most recent reasearches (Azbel) offer simple function for fit mortality tables. Common characteristic of all these functions are difficulty of fiting data. We need to use nume...
متن کاملEvaluation of Models to Describe Temporal Growth in Local Chickens of Ghana
The logistic, Gompertz, Richards and asymmetric logistic growth curve models were fitted to body weight data of local Ghanaian chickens and French SASSO T44 chickens. All four growth models provided good fit for each sex by genotype growth data with R2 values ranging from 86.7% to 96.7%. The rate constant parameter, k, ranged between 0.137 and 0.271 and were significantly different from zero fo...
متن کاملApplication of Gompertz-Poisson Distribution in LifetimeTheory
Gompertz-Poisson distribution is a three-parameter lifetime distribution with increasing, decreasing, increasing-decreasing and unimodal shape failure rate function and a composition of Gompertz and Poisson distributions cut at zero point that in this paper estimated the parameters of the distribution by maximum likelihood method and in order to confirm the calculated estimates, based on random...
متن کاملMicroclimate influence in a physiological model of cattle-fever tick (Boophilus spp.) population dynamics
Since their official eradication from the US in 1943, the cattle-tick species Boophilus microplus and Boophilus annulatus, vectors of bovine babesiosis, frequently have penetrated a quarantine zone established along the Texas–Mexico border designed to exclude them. Inspection and quarantine procedures have eradicated reinfestations successfully within the US, but increasing acaricide resistance...
